Foyer Residents Join Advocacy Efforts in Albany
Foyer residents, Diva and LaShaun, recently traveled to Albany with GSS staff members to join with hundreds of other youth advocates in meeting with the Legislature to urge them to reject the Primary Prevention Incentive Program--which would have eliminated funding for runaway and homeless youth (RHY) programs statewide--and to restore funding for RHY and the range of other affected programs.
Our group was able to meet with the Chairs of the Children and Families committees of both the Senate and the Assembly, as well as with our own Senate and Assembly representatives. In addition, Senator Tom Duane (in whose district the Foyer is located) came off the Senate floor to meet with and speak directly to us. Diva and LaShaun were exceptionally eloquent advocates for these vital services.

Alumni Panel
The Chelsea Foyer recently welcomed back four alumni of the program who graciously agreed to participate in an "alumni panel" workshop and discussion with current residents.
The four panelists shared their personal experiences with getting ready to leave the Foyer with the group - the steps they took to secure stable housing, financial stability, support systems, etc. They also talked about any challenges and/or obstacles they experienced when making the transition to independent living.
This panel was an invaluable opportunity for our residents to meet and gain valuable advice and knowledge from their peers - particularly as many of them are in the midst of preparing and planning to live on their own in the near future.
Thank you to the alumni who took the time out of their busy schedules to come and share!
