GOOD SHEPHERD SERVICES

Out-of-Home Care Programs

Good Shepherd Services’ work in New York City began in 1857 with caring for young people who could not live at home, and we continue this work today. In both foster boarding home and group residential settings, we provide a supportive environment, surrounding each young person with positive relationships and comprehensive services to address their physical, emotional and educational needs. We seek to bring families back together whenever possible, and when family is not an option, we locate adoptive homes or other caring living arrangements for these young people. All of our out-of-home care programs offer a continuum of different levels of care to ensure that each individual young person receives the resources, supports and opportunities he or she needs to:

  • be emotionally and physically safe from abuse, neglect and maltreatment;
  • build social, emotional, academic, vocational and independent living skills;
  • achieve self-sufficiency as developmentally appropriate;
  • build strong connections to caregivers and community resources that support their developmental needs.
