Safe Homes Project
There are many ways that you can help SHP and our work with survivors of domestic violence. We have listed just some of the ways that you can get involved.
Support our Work
Volunteer
Childcare: Play with small groups of children of varying ages in a well-equipped playroom for 1-3 hour periods. Games, arts and crafts supplies, books, videos, and snacks are available, and staff is always present.
Special Events/Activities: Assist with social/recreational activities such as picnics, holiday parties, and Mother’s Day celebrations. Help plan our Annual Vigil.
Outreach: Help with tabling events from May to December. Conduct outreach via mail and telephone.
Share Your Skills: Occasionally, we can engage volunteers with special skills, such as teaching yoga, doing job counseling, or organizing mailing lists.
We prefer a six-month commitment for volunteer activities.
Donate
In-Kind Contributions
Due to space constraints, SHP cannot accept donations of clothing or furniture. We are always able to accept donations of:
New children's books (ages 1-17)
Telephone cards
Gift certificates (Target, Old Navy, etc)
Movie passes
Metro cards
Diapers, powdered baby formula, new baby bottles
Sanitary products
Currently, we also need:
Portable DVD player
Certificates for Build-A-Bear
