Brooklyn Network:
Educational Support Services

Good Shepherd partners with many Brooklyn public schools to target children and young people with school-related difficulties. We help young people to stay in school and strengthen their academic skills by offering comprehensive services to students and their families to address problems interfering with academic performance and encourage educational growth.
Crossroads Attendance Improvement Programs at PS/MS/HS 27, Lincoln High School, Lafayette High School, and Automotive High School
Provide integrated services including attendance monitoring and outreach, counseling, crisis intervention, conflict mediation, extended day activities, tutoring, incentive trips, parent involvement activities and referrals to a broad network of services. Through these efforts, Good Shepherd staff members play a key role in the overall cohesion of each school community and are an important bridge between the home and school.
In addition, our program at PS/MS/HS 27 provides institutional support via technical assistance, learning through work for high school students, family support and engagement, and casework services for families.
Lincoln High School GED Program
Provides attendance outreach, counseling, crisis intervention, conflict mediation, cultural and social activities as well as post high school planning for GED students to ensure their academic and vocational success.
ACCESS GED Program
A full-day program for overage, under-credited youth, who have experienced failure in other academic settings operated in collaboration with the DOE. Specifically designed to work with older adolescents, the program offers personal support and assistance with post-secondary education or vocational training. The program also incorporates the DOE’s Learning to Work initiative.
Downtown Brooklyn, Lincoln High School, Canarsie High School, Automotive High School YABC Programs
Full-time academic programs for youth, ages 17 ½ - 21, to help them complete their education. The program design acknowledges that non-academic factors like family obligations, day care, and work schedules can hinder students from graduating. Students take intensive afternoon and evening classes and focus only on the courses they need to graduate. Operated in collaboration with the DOE, Good Shepherd provides case management; counseling and crisis intervention services; resource referrals; attendance outreach; workshops; academic tutoring and test preparation; college preparation, employment readiness, and career exploration activities; job development and placement; and youth development opportunities.
The Learning to Work program is available at the Downtown Brooklyn, Lincoln High School, and Canarsie High School sites.
