Bronx Network:
Employment and Career Preparation
We seek to create opportunities for program participants to gain exposure to the world of work, to a range of career options and to positive role models. Through individual counseling, workshops and experiential activities, mentoring programs, site visits and job shadowing activities, internships and real work experiences, we help young people explore their talents and interests, expand their horizons, gain increased understanding of the realities of the working world, and clarify their own career goals. Our job readiness activities help youth overcome some of the barriers they face in entering the job market and lay the foundation for lifelong success as productive workers and self-sufficient citizens.
Learning to Work (LTW)
LTW offers in-depth exploration of career and educational options, as well as hands-on experience through subsidized internships to students in our transfer schools and YABC programs. LTW activities help youth to build skills and provide exposure to career paths in a safe learning environment. We offer comprehensive job-readiness workshops covering such topics as appropriate work behavior, interviewing skills, money management, and resume creation. The skills and interests of each student are assessed to help determine potential work areas. We also reach out to local businesses to help create opportunities for the young people, provide stipends for the internships, and ongoing supervision and support during the placement.

"I feel that the opportunity to make the transition into the working world while still being in school better prepares the students for post-graduation life because they have such a strong support network backing them. With everyone involved working together to support the interns, they can handle the issues that can come up without feeling alone. Personally, I also enjoy the more meaningful connection that it allows our company to have with our community."
