GOOD SHEPHERD SERVICES

Bronx Network:
Educational Support Services

Good Shepherd partners with many Bronx public schools to target youth with school-related difficulties.  We help young people to stay in school and strengthen their academic skills by offering comprehensive services to students and their families to address problems interfering with academic performance and encourage educational growth.

Attendance Improvement Programs at Eight Locations

Provide integrated services including attendance monitoring and outreach, counseling, crisis intervention, conflict mediation, extended day activities, tutoring, incentive trips, parent involvement activities and referrals to a broad network of services. Through these efforts, Good Shepherd staff members play a key role in the overall cohesion of each school community and are an important bridge between the home and school.

Mentoring Programs at Stevenson Campus and Bronx High School of Law and Community Service

In partnership with Ernst & Young, the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, and the NYC Department of Education, these programs match more than 90 students with mentors each year. Students also receive support services and participate in work readiness, cultural, and social activities.

YABC Programs at Columbus High School, Grace Dodge High School, Monroe Campus, Stevenson Campus, and Walton Campus

Full-time academic programs for youth, ages 17 ½ - 21, to help them complete their education.  The program design acknowledges that non-academic factors like family obligations, day care, and work schedules can hinder students from graduating.  Students take intensive afternoon and evening classes and focus only on the courses they need to graduate.  Operated in collaboration with the DOE, Good Shepherd provides case management; counseling and crisis intervention services; resource referrals; attendance outreach; workshops; academic tutoring and test preparation; college preparation, employment readiness, and career exploration activities; job development and placement; and youth development opportunities.

The Learning to Work program is available at the Columbus High School, Grace Dodge High School, Monroe Campus and Stevenson Campus sites.
