GOOD SHEPHERD SERVICES

Program News 2007

A Special Night of Celebration

Even a steady rain couldn't dampen spirits at Good Shepherd's Twentieth Annual Benefit on the evening of October 24, 2007. Our largest annual fundraising event as well as a chance to celebrate our accomplishments over the past year and salute the friends, supporters and partners who make our work possible, the Benefit was held at the legendary Tavern on the Green in Central Park.

This year, Good Shepherd honored longtime Board member and recently elected President, James J. Sullivan, of Prudential Financial. For over a decade, Jim has given selflessly of his time, resources and financial expertise in a multitude of ways, most notably initiating and sponsoring the Wall Street Challenge, a highly successful annual golf tournament fundraiser.

Also on the program was a moving speech by a former program participant and current employee, Roland Knight. Roland recounted to a rapt audience his experiences as a child in Red Hook, Brooklyn and how Good Shepherd's Beacon Community Center program at PS 15 provided a safe haven in a dangerous neighborhood, leading to his decision to devote his own life to working with at-risk urban youth. "Good Shepherd is in life saving work," he said, "and I hope I can be part of the reason why a child feels their potential and understands that everything is possible."
