Interviewing Gems

On Thursday, March 17th,   United Way of New York City organized an "Interviewing Workshop", led by six volunteers from Limited Brand, for our young women at the St. Helena's, Marian Hall, and Chelsea Foyer Residential programs. The focus of the workshop was to help educate our young people on appropriate interview conduct and attire. They participated in mock interviews with the Limited Brand volunteers serving as the interviewer and were offered feedback on ways to improve their communication skills, voice projection, and body language.  During the workshop, the young women and volunteers broke out in to small groups to discuss their individual career goals.  They also worked to develop a two-minute commercial, in which they sought to sell themselves to a potential employer, ultimately conveying why they were the right person for the job.

Overall, this workshop was a tremendous success, and marked the beginning of a new and exciting partnership with Limited Brand.  It was an equally rewarding experience for our young people and the Limited Brand volunteers. Our youth completed the workshop feeling a great sense of accomplishment and with concrete skills to help them as they embark on their individual career endeavors.
