GOOD SHEPHERD SERVICES

Program News 2006

Holiday Time In The City

Despite the considerable challenge presented by the first transit strike in nearly a quarter-century, Good Shepherd Services celebrated the recent holiday season throughout our programs with parties in our foster boarding home, community-based and residential programs.  As always, we focused on creating a happy and festive atmosphere for our participants, for whom the holidays can often be difficult.

Our program staff was assisted in this endeavor by the generous corporations and individuals who participated in our Holiday Gift Drive. A wide variety of toys, clothes and other gifts were collected and distributed through the programs, and numerous financial contributions were made in support of holiday festivities and gifts for our young people. Our ‘Adopt-a-Family' program continues to grow, with many repeat donors as well as new friends buying gifts for specific families. Our need was greater than ever, as this was the first holiday season since Good Shepherd's assumption of a network of community-based programs in the Bronx, increasing the amount of people we serve by approximately 6,000. Our donors rose to the challenge, and all of us at Good Shepherd are extremely grateful to the many people who opened their hearts to help ensure that our children, young people and families enjoyed a happy and memorable holiday season.
