Robin Hood Honors Sr. Paulette and Group Care Resident Monica Thompson
On December fourth, Robin Hood held its fourteenth annual Robin Hood Heroes Awards at The Plaza Hotel. The foundation honors select individuals who have done exceptional work in transforming the lives of the underserved in New York City. The organizations represented by the Hero award recipients each receive a $50,000 grant. This year, Good Shepherd Services Executive Director Sr. Paulette LoMonaco, and Monica Thompson, a resident of St. Helena's, were among those selected as Robin Hood Heroes. Sr. Paulette was honored for her "dynamic leadership, her passion, and selflessness" as Good Shepherd's Executive Director for the past 23 years. She was recognized for her accomplishments in leading the agency's growth while maintaining its high quality of programs. Monica was placed in our group care program at Good Shepherd after her family situation deteriorated. Now a college student who also works full-time, she has emerged as leader in her community. At the awards breakfast, Monica read aloud a poem she had written that intimately describes coming to terms with her experience in the cycle of abuse, poverty and neglect. Many audience members were moved to tears, and Monica received a standing ovation.
