Our Young People Show Leadership in Challenging Times
During the past few months, people from all walks of life have responded to unimaginable events with extraordinary acts of courage, selflessness and generosity. Here at Good Shepherd, it has been a moving and inspiring experience to watch our young people, many of whom confront very real and immediate challenges, rise above their problems and communicate their compassion for those who suffered losses. In our residential programs, our young people spontaneously sought ways to help out-collecting food and clothing for the rescue workers and organizing bake sales to raise money for relief efforts. Young women from Marian Hall and Euphrasian Residences held a bake sale in late September and raised $285 for WTC relief efforts. The young men from Barbara Blum Residence in Brooklyn held a penny drive and cake sale outside the home and raised $400. They brought these funds to the firefighters at Ladder Company 105 who had lost six of their peers in the disaster.
