Not Just Another Day at the Beach...

On August 6th, the Architects' Union sponsored a day of sandcastle building at Coney Island Beach for the children and young people from our Red Hook Community Center Beacon in Brooklyn. The participants, ages 5-14, were broken up into 24 groups consisting of 5-7 young people and one volunteer from the Architects' Union, a grassroots organization created for the support, unity and empowerment of architects. The children were given the opportunity to interact with a caring adult while learning about architecture in a fun and creative way. Not only were the children able to take part in a team-oriented project, but they were also treated to a beautiful day at the beach!  At the end of the day, all who took part had a wonderful time and took great pride in their finished creations.
