A Community Celebrates Thanksgiving

On Thursday, November 15th Good Shepherd Service's Red Hook Community Center Beacon at PS 15 sponsored its Annual Thanksgiving Dinner. With over 450 people in attendance, the dinner brought together youth, families, Beacon and school staff, community residents, funders and public officials.  As in previous years, the delicious meal was contributed, prepared and served by Great Performances, the NYC company that caters Good Shepherd's Annual Benefit fundraiser.  GSS Board members Cynthia Coulson, Joseph McLaughlin and Paul Williamson were on hand to serve up helpings of traditional Thanksgiving fare.  The Beacon's youth leadership groups played a vital role in organizing the event, from ushering and serving to coordinating entertainment.  The program included a photo slide show, an a cappella performance by Joe Russell of The Persuasions, and a performance by the Pied Pipers Dance Troupe.  The evening was a wonderful opportunity for the residents of the under-served Red Hook area to experience the strength of family and community connections, while demonstrating the role of the Beacon as a focal point for the entire community.
