Good Shepherd Services’ Horizons Unlimited After-School Program and the South Brooklyn Local Development Corporation Celebrate Artistic and Musical Talents of South Brooklyn Youth
On June 5th Good Shepherd's Horizon's Unlimited After-School Program in collaboration with the South Brooklyn Local Development Corporation (SBLDC) sponsored a youth art showcase to display the artistic skills of the young people in their new after-school programs. The gallery featured a representative selection of student works in the forms of painting, drawing, ceramics and photography. The MS 293 Jazz Band as well as the Horizons Unlimited Chorus illustrated the outstanding musical skills of our students with performances at the event. In addition, the young people from SBLDC's culinary arts program provided the delectable refreshments. Good Shepherd's Horizon's Unlimited After-School Program was initiated in October 2001 in collaboration with NYC Community School District 15, at MS 293 Campus. It is funded through the U.S. Department of Education's "21st Century Community Learning Centers" initiative, as are SBLDC's after-school activities. The four-day-a-week program provides homework assistance, tutoring, literacy enhancement, community service activities, sports, arts and crafts, and youth leadership training to 100 middle school students from The School for International Studies and The Brooklyn School for Global Studies.
