Building Bridges
10 young women from our Euphrasian Residence recently teamed up with DrawBridge, to create a mural entitled "Sisterhood," which celebrates the many faces and diversity of girls and women in our program as well as city and country wide. Salifu Mohammed, Artist-in Residence at the DrawBridge organization in California, led the project. The mission of DrawBridge is to provide art programs for homeless children in an environment that fosters their sense of childhood, joy, creativity and exuberance. Salifu, and two additional DrawBridge staff initially engaged the girls in a brainstorming session in which they discussed the purpose and focus of the mural. The mural took two weeks to complete and, during this time, the group developed a strong sense of community and real feeling of ownership of the finished product. The vibrant mural is a wonderful, permanent addition to the rooftop patio of our 17th street facility, where Euphrasian Residence is located.
