Good Shepherd Designated Promise Place
Good Shepherd was recently designated as a "Promise Place" by the America's Promise Alliance. America's Promise is a national partnership of more than 300 organizations, including corporations, not-for-profits, and advocacy groups, committed to ensuring that all young people graduate from high school ready for college, work and life.
Promise Places are organizations that deliver all of the "Five Promises" to the youth they serve. The Five Promises are the wrap-around supports America's Promise has identified as crucial in preparing a child for success in life:
- Caring Adults
- Safe Places
- A Healthy Start
- An Effective Education
- Opportunities to Help Others
Studies have shown that young people who receive at least four of the Five Promises are twice as likely to avoid violence and earn As in school, as well as 40% more likely to volunteer.
Good Shepherd Services is one of 77 Promise Places nationwide, and 12 in New York City. NYC is a Featured Community, where America's Promise is collaborating locally on initiatives to cut the dropout rate in public schools.
