A Thanksgiving Celebration for Our Red Hook Beacon
On Thursday, November 20th, Good Shepherd Service's Red Hook Community Center Beacon at PS 15 sponsored its Annual Thanksgiving Dinner. With approximately 500 people in attendance, the dinner brought together youth, families, Beacon and school staff, community residents, GSS Board members, funders and public officials. For the ninth year, the delicious turkey meal was contributed, prepared and served by Great Performances, the NYC company that caters Good Shepherd's Annual Benefit fundraiser. The evening's entertainment included dance performances by Girls With Movements, a slide show, and storytelling with Flying Bridge Community Arts. The Beacon's youth leadership groups organized much of the entertainment, as well as the ushering and serving. The evening was a wonderful opportunity for the residents of the under-served Red Hook area to experience the strength of family and community connections, while demonstrating the role of the Beacon as a focal point for the entire community.
