In Memory of Joseph T. McLaughlin

We are deeply saddened by the recent passing of Joe McLaughlin, who was a member of Good Shepherd Services' Board of Directors or President's Council for more than thirty years.  Joe was an extraordinary leader, friend and mentor, generous beyond measure in sharing his expertise, time and resources.  Instrumental in the growth and development of Good Shepherd Services, and a friend to the entire child welfare community, there are no words to describe our loss or how greatly he will be missed.  more

Remembering Jeffrey F. Buckalew

Good Shepherd Services mourns the loss of our beloved friend and Board member, Jeff Buckalew, his wife Corinne and their two young children.  Jeff and Corinne were dedicated members of our community, who showed remarkable compassion and commitment to the children, youth, and families of Good Shepherd.  They will be deeply missed. more

Groundwork is Joining Good Shepherd Services!

Groundwork and Good Shepherd Services are joining forces!  Beginning on January  1, 2012, Groundwork's network of after-school, college preparation, case management and other supportive programs in East New York and Bedford-Stuyvesant came under the management of Good Shepherd Services.  Under our plan, Groundwork will become part of our Brooklyn network of community-based programs enabling us to have greater impact than ever before.    more

GSS Publishes Agency Monograph

It is with great pleasure that we announce the publication of a new monograph about Good Shepherd Services.  Generously funded by the Carnegie Corporation, "Making a Difference: Evolution of a Mission-Driven Youth Development Agency" illustrates the history of our agency and the genesis of our strength-based approach to working with vulnerable children, young people and families.  Click here to download the report.   Please set your printer to "Fit to Printable Area" under the Page Handling section.

As part of the Philanthropy New York’s THOUGHT LEADER series, Good Shepherd Services Executive Director Sister Paulette LoMonaco recently joined Robert Egger, Executive Director of the DC Central Kitchen, and author of Begging For Change to discuss the current state of national and local social service nonprofits and how they are coping with numerous budget cuts and how they will move forward. Success Story

Camonghne, Bronx Community High School 

Camonghne, a 2010 graduate of Bronx Community High School and an accomplished poet, reigns as New York City Youth Poet of the Year. She was crowned with this title in September 2010 when she won the Nuyorican Neophyte Youth Poet of the Year Slam.  Now a freshman at Hostos Community College, Camonghne is currently a Finalist in the Knicks Poetry Slam and will compete in the Finale on February 24, 2011 at Madison Square Garden.  Hostos recently featured a profile on this talented young woman on their website.
