Sr. Paulette LoMonaco
Executive Director
Sr. Paulette LoMonaco is Executive Director of Good Shepherd Services, a non-profit social service and youth development agency serving more than 20,000 New York City children and families annually through a continuum of citywide residential, foster care/adoption, and professional training programs and a network of over forty community-based programs in Brooklyn and the Bronx that include educational support, counseling, crisis intervention, after-school and in-school counseling and youth development programs. She has overall responsibility for the management and oversight of the Agency’s programs, finances, and funding and for working with the Board of Directors and senior staff to provide leadership in the development of policies and strategic plans. During her tenure, the agency’s budget has increased from $3.5M to $60M. Paulette led several programs at GSS prior to her becoming Executive Director in 1980. She has a MA in Family and Community Relations from Teachers College of Columbia University and a BA in History/Education from American International College. She completed Columbia University’s Institute for Not-For-Profit Management in 1984, and has an honorary doctorate from St Francis College. Sr. LoMonaco is an active participant in many New York civic and nonprofit institutions, serving on the Boards of The Human Services Council, the New York State Council of Family and Child Caring Agencies, the Fund for the City of New York, the Advisory Board of the Child Welfare League of America, the NYC Administration for Children’s Services Commissioner’s Advisory Board, and a number of local youth service programs. Under her leadership Good Shepherd Services was the recipient of the inaugural New York Times Company Nonprofit Excellence Award.
Adel Ayad
Assistant Executive Director for Finance and Operations
Mr. Ayad plans, directs and executes the development of financial information needed to support the agency’s objectives. Mr. Ayad establishes accounting practices consistent with generally accepted accounting principles, and in accordance with the specific needs and requirements of the agency and its contract sponsors. Mr. Ayad is responsible for the preparation of the agency budget, which has recently increased from $28 Million to over $60 Million; presents quarterly financial statements to the Board; and directs the preparation of interim and annual financial statements required by government agencies and foundations. Mr. Ayad oversees all issues related to Management Information System (MIS), agency leases, contracts and purchasing. Prior to coming to Good Shepherd in 1987, Mr. Ayad was the Controller for National Services Corporation, where he was responsible for cash management and maintenance of accurate books; and Senior Accountant for the Metropolitan Assistance Corporation. In addition, Mr. Ayad has experience working as a CPA in Kuwait and Cairo, Egypt. Mr. Ayad has a BA in Business Administration with a Major in Accounting from Ein Shams University in Cairo.
Denise Hinds
Assistant Executive Director for Residential Programs
In her current position, which she assumed in 2000, Ms. Hinds is responsible for the development and administration of Good Shepherd Services Residential Programs, which includes two long-term residences, a short-term diagnostic and crisis intervention center, three non-secure detention centers, and the Chelsea Foyer which provides transitional supportive housing for young adults who are aging our of care, homeless, or at-risk of homelessness. Since joining the agency in 1984 as a Senior Child Care Worker, Ms. Hinds has taken on progressively more responsible positions and overseen the growth of several new programs. From 1985-1988, she worked as Caseworker, providing attendance improvement/ dropout prevention services, case management and counseling through our school-based Crossroads program in Brooklyn. She then became Childcare Coordinator for one of our short-term diagnostic centers in Brooklyn, and in 1992, was promoted to Program Director of that program. In 1995, Ms. Hinds became Program Director of Pelletier School, which provided high school academic and support services for young people with emotional barriers and learning disabilities. In 1999, she took on the leadership of a new Good Shepherd Services Training Department. In addition to her leadership of the residential division, Ms. Hinds played a key role in the development and leadership of the Cultural Diversity Committee of the agency, and now co-leads our newly developed Human Resources Committee which brings together staff from throughout the agency to review and advise the agency leadership on issues of cultural competence, ethics, and staff development. Ms. Hinds also serves on the Board of Directors of the Center for Anti-Violence Education and the Advisory Board of the Global Women’s Exchange. She has a BA from Maryville College in Tennessee and an MSW from the Hunter College School of Social Work.
Laurie Williams
Assistant Executive Director for Administration and Staff Development
Ms. Williams has overall responsibility for the Quality Improvement, Human Resources, and Training Departments of Good Shepherd Services. Prior to her appointment as Assistant Executive Director for Administration and Staff Development, Ms. Williams was a Program Director for our Crossroads Program from 1996-2000, Outcomes Management Director from 2000-2001, and Director of Quality Improvement from 2001-2002. Before coming to Good Shepherd Services, Ms. Williams was the Director for Steinway Child & Family Services in Long Island City, where she was responsible for Steinway’s Community-Based Outpatient Mental Health Clinic and On-Site School Based Mental Health Program. Previous to working at Steinway, Ms. Williams spent 6 years administering successful fundraising campaigns for several non-profit organizations including The Metropolitan Opera, The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, New York University, and The United Way. Ms. Williams holds a BA from NYU, an MA in Psychology from NYU Graduate School of Arts & Science, and an MSW and CSW from The Hunter College School of Social Work.
