Making the Most of Public and Private Resources
Our business approach is especially rigorous because the more demanding we are, the more we can accomplish. From our work with the New York City school system to our own program design, we do everything we can to leverage our funding and our partnerships with other organizations. Our strength is in bringing to bear the right resources at the right time for long enough to make a difference.
Forming Partnerships to Maximize Capacity:
When we identify a need, we use a strategic approach to fill the gaps, collaborating with other public or private institutions to attain our goals. When possible, we use existing infrastructure rather than duplicate effort, using our core competencies to add value to those of others. In schools, for example, we don’t teach. But when we combine our expertise in youth development with the skills and knowledge of the teaching staff, we create the climate where education can take place. From our partnerships with government agencies to our work with other non-profits and corporations, our collaborations are pivotal to the seamless web of support and enrichment that is so critical if young people are to succeed over time. more

By providing the right supports in the right places, our programs demonstrate how smart uses of private dollars can make huge public investments-in education and social service-more effective. Even within our own organization, we are experts at leveraging our resources, with minimal overhead, to make a powerful impact on the youth and families, and communities we serve.
Building Capacity through Staff Training:
We know the value of investing in a highly competent workforce of leaders who are in the forefront of our field. Our own staff training and the training we provide to human services professionals throughout the City help ensure they all have the knowledge and skills they need to work effectively with young people.
Advocating For Youth:
Reflecting our mission, our knowledge of best practice and our success in developing innovative program models, we work as strong advocates in the public arena to effect change and make sure that government and private systems attend to the needs of vulnerable youth and their families
